Hire a full-time data analyst. SQL, Power BI and GA4, tested on a real business question.

One person who answers why the numbers moved, builds the dashboard your team actually opens, and catches bad data before it reaches a chart.

$3,500 a month, salary included. 2–3 vetted profiles in about two weeks.

What a data analyst owns, day to day.

  • Business questions

Revenue fell? They define the metric, write the SQL and answer in five lines you can act on.

  • Dashboards read in a minute

Three numbers up top and the detail underneath, in Power BI or Looker Studio.

  • Reconciliation

Why the dashboard doesn’t match Stripe, documented so anyone can rerun it.

  • Data quality

Duplicates, time zones, refunds and test orders found and fixed at the source.

  • GA4 and marketing data

Channel numbers that agree with your orders, or a clear reason why they don’t.

  • Pipelines when you need them

Scheduled loads into a warehouse without duplicates, once spreadsheets stop scaling.

How we test a data analyst.

A take-home test on SQL + Power BI: about 2.5 hours of work, graded by an engineer. Looker Studio instead of Power BI when that’s your tool. A data engineer role adds a pipeline part.

  1. Part 1, about 60 min

    A real business question

Net revenue fell in August compared with July for a US online store. By how much, and why? Definitions and assumptions come before any SQL.

What passes Stated the assumptions before writing any SQL.

  2. Part 2, about 45 min

A dashboard read in a minute

One page in Power BI or Looker Studio for the founder.

What passes Three numbers up top, the detail underneath.

  3. Part 3, about 45 min

    Bad data and GA4

Planted duplicates, a time-zone gap, partial refunds and test orders, plus GA4 numbers that don’t match the orders table.

What passes Flagged duplicated orders and a timezone gap, and said how much each one changes.

  4. Then, live

    An interview with an engineer

They walk us through their work. We ask: Revenue in the dashboard doesn’t match Stripe. How do you reconcile it? And one change, made live: a new question from the founder, answered live from the same data.

Profile A

Engineer’s scorecard

  • SQL
  • Power BI or Looker Studio
  • GA4
  • Clear write-ups

“Starts from definitions, writes clean SQL and documents the logic.”

Watch: More Power BI than Looker Studio.

SQL + Power BI · Graded by an engineer

Every profile you get comes with one, plus what they built and a short intro video in English.

Who gets through, and who doesn’t.

Must-haves

  • Strong SQL: joins, window functions, CTEs
  • Power BI or Looker Studio dashboards
  • GA4 and marketing data
  • Spreadsheets, for the people who live in them
  • Short written answers a founder can act on

Red flags we screen out

  • SQL before the metric is defined
  • Twenty charts and no answer
  • The GA4 number taken as the truth
  • Assumptions kept hidden
  • Can’t say what the data can’t tell you

Analyst, engineer or BI developer?

An analyst answers questions and builds the reports. A data engineer builds the pipelines that feed them. Most small teams need the analyst first: the data already sits in Stripe, the CRM, GA4 and a spreadsheet, and nobody has time to make it agree.

If you need pipelines too (daily loads without duplicates, data tests with dbt, an alert when a load fails), it goes in your hiring plan and the test adds a pipeline part.

$3,500 a month. Salary included.

No placement fee, and nothing to pay until their first day. If they aren’t the right fit, we replace them at no cost, with a full handover.

Part-time or a set number of hours? Ask us on a call.

  1. Today

A 30-minute call. You tell us the role and the stack.

  2. In about two weeks

2–3 vetted profiles. The time goes into an engineer testing each one on your stack.

  3. In week three

The person you pick starts, full-time on your team.

Questions

Something else? Ask us on a call

Power BI or Looker Studio?

Either. The test runs on the one you use, and the scorecard says which one each candidate is strongest in.

Can they build our data pipelines too?

If it’s a must-have, yes: the test adds a daily incremental load with data tests and an alert when it fails.

Do candidates see our real data?

Not during vetting: the test uses a made-up store. Once hired, they work in your accounts with the access you give them.

What does a full-time data analyst cost?

$3,500 a month for a full-time hire, salary included. No placement fee, and nothing to pay until their first day. Need part-time or a set number of hours? Ask us and we’ll quote it.
